How Adjustable Air Mattresses Work
An adjustable-air mattress replaces a fixed support core with one or more inflatable chambers. A pump changes chamber pressure, while foam and fabric layers above the chamber create the surface feel.

Air chamber
The chamber is the load-bearing adjustable element. Increasing pressure makes it resist compression more; reducing pressure allows more give.
